Babybird

Britská indie skupina Babybird vznikla v roce 1995. Jejím frontmanem byl muzikant Stephen Jones, který hudební formaci založil společně s klávesistou Huwem Chadbournem, bubeníkem Robertem Gregorym, basistou Johnem Pedderem a kytaristou Lukem Scottem. Kapela fungovala do roku 2012.

Do psaní písní a natáčení domácích demonahrávek se Stephen Jones pustil, když působil v Nottinghamu v experimentální divadelní skupině. Soubor těchto demonahrávek vyšel v červenci 1995 pod názvem I Was Born a Man – a stal se první nahrávkou, která vyšla pod hlavičkou skupiny Babybird. V témže roce vyšly ještě další dvě demonahrávky skupiny – pod názvy Bad Shave a Fatherhood. V roce 1996 pak spatřily světlo světa demonahrávky The Happiest Man Alive a Dying Happy. Skupina Babybird podepsala nahrávací smlouvu s vydavatelstvím Echo Records, divizí společnosti Chrystalis Group, a nahrála svůj první autentický singl Goodnight, který se v červenci 1996 objevil na nahrávce s názvem Fatherhood. Píseň se umístila v britské hitparádě. V říjnu 1996 pak skupina vydala singl pojmenovaný You’re Gorgeous, který se v britském hudebním žebříčku vyšplhal na třetí místo a stal se jednou z nejprodávanějších skladeb roku.

Následovaly singly Candy Girl, Cornershop, Bad Old Man, If You’ll Be Mine, Back Together, Out of Sight, The F-Word a Fireflies/Getaway. V průběhu své existence se skupina dvakrát rozpadla – poprvé na začátku třetího tisíciletí, podruhé v roce 2004. V srpnu 2009 se kapela vydala na turné, na němž propagovala album Ex-Maniac, jenž vyšlo v únoru 2010. Na jedné ze skladeb se skupinou spolupracoval dokonce jejich dlouholetý fanoušek – herec Johny Depp. V roce 2012 se pak skupina definitivně rozpadla.
