I know the kids are waitin', and there's not much more to go I've been out from home about a week or more My eyes are blurred and tired, that's the way I feel But there's lovin' waitin' for me back at home When I'm away, this ol' truck is like a friend to me I talk to this ol' motor, and the revs talk back to me Now this long trip's nearly over; what a rough ol' time we've had But I'll leave you at the depot, and a good ol' rest you'll have Mmm-mmm-oleyee We've been on our way from Brisbane, now it's not so far to go Forty miles or so, and we'll be seein' home A storm-cloud's on the mountains; I think it's about to rain Heck, the longest miles are always the nearest home There's the busy lights of Sydney now, a sight for these sore eyes Thank goodness the storm's blown over, and the stars back in the sky At the depot we'll part company for just a day or two Then I'll be back, ol' truck, to pick you up, and you'll be shinin' good as new Mmm-mmm-oleyee Truck-stop food is okay, and the coffee may be fine But after awhile, it all just tastes the same Got a yen for good home cookin', and even some homemade bread If the kids burned the toast, I don't think I'd complain Hey, I've just heard on the radio there's a pile-up just ahead Ol' truck, you'll have to cool your tires until the road's made way Then I'll head you for the depot, where they'll check you through and through And I'll be back, ol' truck, to pick you up, and we'll be rollin' good as new
