I had a dream we were born horses And not human beings With more time to run And less time for things Lit by the lightning Barefoot and wild Side by side against the night Against the wind and horizon While our manes turn from golden to white I dreamed we were born horses Waiting for wings But with more sky inside us Than most human beings Bigger than our bodies Weightless in our minds Made of whatever it is in horses that runs And whatever it is in birds that flies I had this dream we were born horses Who chose human things Like streetlights for stars And plains of concrete I dreamed we were born horses Floating away from the present Like two "let go" balloons And no one could catch us And no one could break us And no one could own us And no one could tame us And no one could tame me No one, and I do mean no one No one but you, I I dreamed we were born horses I dreamed we were born horses
