Well, I played in every town here to fort Wayne Indiana
Singing all the songs I know folks all I can hear
Each and every honky tonk is somehow like the last one
Just another place to call a home away from home

Well, I took a job that sent me down to greenwood Mississippi
2 nights in the Gatlin land and on to baton rouge
And one more stop in little rock then on to Tyler Texas
Every club I play becomes a home away from home

Lord, I miss the sweet breeze and the coast of Carolina
And why she waits I'll never understand
The road has gotten longer since I left for west Virginia
I wonder if it's really worth the time I put in

Well, the bus broke down in south of town and left the whole band stranded
Not much chance of goin' home so we tried to hitch a ride
Half the band got lucky on a diesel bound for Denver
Just another place to call a home away from home

Lord, I miss the sweet breeze and the coast of Carolina
And why she waits I'll never understand
The road has gotten longer since I left for west Virginia
I wonder if it's really worth the time I put in
