I was driving for a while my eyes were heavy
I was running low on gasoline
So I stopped into a little town where
No one really was around
And neon sign said open in bright green

Linda works at the diner down on main
She's never met a stranger
Knows everybody's name
Always talking about the weather
Never wonders why
She's been there for forever
Eighty four, maybe five

Youngest boy is headed off to college
First one of the family tree
And her oldest won't quit working nights
In North Dakota welding pipes
Says "money's just too damn good to leave"

But she keeps the coffee coming
And man it hits just right
We could all use a little Linda in our lives

Linda drives a navy blue old Buick
It was her Grandma's and her Mom's and now it's hers
Says she's gonna drive it to the grave
Cause all the money that she saves
Tends to wind up in the offering plate at church

She asked me if I had a family
And why the hell that I was passing through
I just said that we ain't close
But funny enough I'm heading home
I ain't been there in a year or two

She just says "oh honey
You're gonna make this momma cry"
We could all use a little Linda in our lives

It was time for me to get back on the highway
Part of me just didn't wanna leave
Cause she shared her love
And shared her light
And made this old boy realize
The biggest problems always been me

One thing Linda never asked me
Was how I got that Rolex on my wrist
So when it came time for the bill
I figured oh what the hell
And left a handful of zeros on the tip

My buddy said a word
We both had tears in our eyes
We could all use a little Linda in our lives

I'll never forget
She said to me
"It's easier to be nice"
And we could all use a little Linda in our lives
