Think of every human being who ever existed Who lived out their lives On a speck of dust floating in the enormous sea of space Every caveman who hunted Every king and queen Every humble peasant Every man and woman in love Every father and mother of every hopeful child Every creator and killer of civilisation Every inspiring leader Every evil dictator Every inventor Every explorer Every amazing artist and musician Every superstar Every single person in the entire history of our species lived here On this tiny blue island floating in the infinite cosmic abyss Now imagine all the oceans of blood Spilled by all those generals and emperors So that in triumph and glory They could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot There is probably no better picture to sum up all the errors of our ways And put everything into true perspective Than seeing this distant image of our tiny world From this vantage point it's easy to see that our similarities far outweigh our differences We are all human In all the vastness of the cosmos There is not hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves Like it or not the Earth is where we make our stand That's here That's home That's us We are special And this beautiful little island that we call "home" Is a true miracle of the universe To me, it shows us the importance of dealing more kindly with one another And to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot The only home we've ever known
