Belle & Sebastian

Belle & Sebastian je skotská indie popová kapela, která vznikla v roce 1994 v Glasgow. Skupinu vede Stuart Murdoch a během své kariéry vydala dvanáct studiových alb. Často bývá srovnávána s interprety jako jsou The Smiths a Nick Drake. Název kapely pochází ze stejnojmenného televizního seriálu z roku 1965.

V roce 1994 se Stuart Murdoch a Stuart David zúčastnili programu Beatbox pro nezaměstnané hudebníky na Stow College v Glasgow. Spolu s profesorem hudby Alanem Rankinem nahráli několik demo nahrávek, které v roce 1996 zaujaly školní label Electric Honey. To vedlo k nahrání debutového alba Tigermilk, které bylo nahráno živě během tří dnů. Kromě Murdocha a Davida se na albu podíleli místní hudebníci, včetně Stevieho Jacksona, Isobel Campbell a dalších.

Po úspěchu debutu bylo vydáno druhé album If You're Feeling Sinister v roce 1996, které se stalo klíčovým dílem kapely a je často považováno za jejich mistrovské dílo. Následovalo několik EP, které pomohly zvýšit popularitu kapely, i když si udržovala nízký profil kvůli zdravotním problémům Murdocha.

Třetí album The Boy with the Arab Strap dosáhlo 12. místa v britských hitparádách a kapela za něj získala ocenění Best Newcomer na BRIT Awards v roce 1999. Následující album Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant se dostalo do top 10 v UK. Hudba kapely začala být používána ve filmech a televizních pořadech, což dále posílilo jejich popularitu.

V roce 2003 kapela vydala album Dear Catastrophe Waitress, které produkoval Trevor Horn a které znamenalo návrat Murdocha jako hlavního skladatele. Album bylo úspěšné jak u kritiky, tak u fanoušků a pomohlo kapele obnovit její "indie" prestiž. Následující album The Life Pursuit vyšlo v roce 2006 a dosáhlo 8. místa v britských hitparádách.

V roce 2017 kapela vydala sérii EP pod názvem How to Solve Our Human Problems a v roce 2022 bylo vydáno jejich jedenácté studiové album A Bit of Previous. Následující rok přišlo album Late Developers, což potvrzuje, že Belle & Sebastian i po téměř třech desetiletích na scéně zůstávají aktivní a kreativní součástí hudebního světa.
