Still rising from the ashes
Monoliths of a long lost time
We brought our own destruction
For no apparent reason or rhyme

The end of what would sustain us
The end of all thats fair
Our selfish strive for pleasures
Greedily grabbing more than our share

The used to be such beauty
A world beyond compare
Lush with vibrant colors
With resources to spare
A fragile palpable Eden
Something concrete never vague
Which we destroyed and ravaged
Humankind the eighth plague

And we fell upon the earth
Like locusts in a swarm
A race in feeding frenzy
Killing to get more
Obese and numb and bloated
We gorged ourselves regardless
Of consequence honesty and moral

And in distant valleys
The cries of millions were heard
The mountains shook from under thundering blasts
The heavens cried acrimonious tears
And ashes covered a shuddering world
The trees all stood naked and withered and died
And became pillars in our morose mausoleum

We're the hell on Earth
And we fell upon existence
Like locusts in a swarm
A race in feeding frenzy
Obliterating to get more
Obese and numb and bloated
We gorged ourselves regardless
Of consequence honesty and moral

Now there's nothing more but sadness
In a cold and destitute realm
Thats all that ever follows
With the greedy at the helm
Bereaved of hope and beauty
We struggle to understand
In selfish bitter mourning
How it all got out of hand
