Survivor

Survivor byla americká rocková kapela, kterou v roce 1978 v Chicagu založili Jim Peterik a Frankie Sullivan. Skupina dosáhla komerčního úspěchu v 80. letech s pěti singly, které se dostaly do první desítky v USA. Nejznámější je jejich hit z roku 1982 Eye of the Tiger, který se stal ústřední písní filmu Rocky III a strávil šest týdnů na prvním místě v amerických hitparádách.

Vokálem Survivor byl od roku 1978 do roku 1983 Dave Bickler, který se podílel na prvních čtyřech albech kapely. Po jeho odchodu kvůli zranění hlasu ho v roce 1984 nahradil Jimi Jamison. S Jamisonem kapela dosáhla úspěchu s hity jako High on You, The Search Is Over, Burning Heart a Is This Love, než se v roce 1988 odmlčela.

V roce 1993 se kapela s Bicklerem vrátila, ale Jamison ho v roce 2000 opět nahradil. Jejich poslední album Reach vyšlo v roce 2006. Po vydání alba Jamison kapelu opustil a na jeho místo nastoupil Robin McAuley. V roce 2011 se Jamison vrátil potřetí jako vokalista. Skupina v roce 2013 koncertovala s oběma vokalisty, Bicklerem a Jamisonem, což trvalo až do Jamisonovy smrti v roce 2014.

Před vznikem Survivor byl Jim Peterik frontmanem kapely The Ides of March. Inspirací pro název nové kapely se stal popis Peterika jako "survivora" v poznámkách k jeho albu Don't Fight the Feeling. Po rozpuštění Jim Peterik Bandu se Peterik rozhodl zkusit štěstí s novou kapelou a po setkání s kytaristou Frankiem Sullivanem se zrodil Survivor.

Průlomový úspěch kapely přišel v roce 1982 díky hitu Eye of the Tiger, který se stal ústřední melodií filmu Rocky III. Tato skladba získala Grammy za nejlepší rockový výkon dua nebo skupiny a byla nominována na Oscara. I přes pozdější změny v sestavě zůstává Survivor jednou z ikon rockové hudby 80. let.
