Iron Butterfly

Iron Butterfly byla americká rocková kapela, která vznikla v roce 1966 v San Diegu v Kalifornii. Nejvíce jsou známí díky svému hitu z roku 1968 In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, který přinesl dramatický zvuk a přispěl k rozvoji hard rocku a heavy metalu. I když jejich zlatá léta byla v 60. letech, kapela se několikrát reformovala s různými členy, ale od roku 1975 nevydala žádné nové nahrávky. Jejich druhé album In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida z roku 1968 zůstává prodejním hitem a Iron Butterfly byla první skupinou, která získala platinovou desku od Atlantic Records.

Kapela byla původně složena z Douga Inglea (zpěv, varhany), Jacka Pinneyho (bicí), Grega Willise (basa) a Dannyho Weise (kytara). Po přestěhování do Los Angeles v roce 1966 došlo k několika změnám v sestavě. V roce 1968 vydali své debutové album Heavy po podpisu smlouvy s Atco Records. Následně se kapela stala známou díky svému inovativnímu mixu hard rocku a psychedelických prvků.

Jejich druhé album In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida se stalo obrovským hitem, především díky stejnojmenné skladbě, která trvala 17 minut. Tato skladba se dostala do top 30 hitů v USA a album se drželo na žebříčcích Billboardu 140 týdnů, přičemž se prodalo přes 30 milionů kopií. Iron Butterfly byli v 60. letech také známi pro své živé koncerty a hráli například s Jefferson Airplane.

Během 70. a 80. let se kapela několikrát reformovala, ale nikdy nedosáhla úspěchu svých počátečních let. V roce 1988 se původní členové znovu sešli na oslavě 40. výročí Atlantic Records. Navzdory opakovaným pokusům o návrat se Iron Butterfly v novém tisíciletí natrvalo nerozjela a po úmrtí několika klíčových členů v roce 2024 zůstala neaktivní.

Navzdory mnoha změnám v sestavě a přestávkám v kariéře zůstává Iron Butterfly významnou kapelou v historii rockové hudby, především díky jejich přelomovému albu In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, které ovlivnilo mnoho dalších interpretů a žánrů.
