Eva Cassidy

Eva Cassidy, celým jménem Eva Marie Cassidy, byla americká zpěvačka a hudebnice, narozená 2. února 1963 ve Washingtonu, D.C. Byla známá svými interpretacemi jazzu, folku a blues, které zpívala svým silným a emotivním sopránem. V roce 1992 vydala své první album The Other Side, které bylo sbírkou duetů s go-go hudebníkem Chuckem Brownem. Následovalo živé sólové album Live at Blues Alley v roce 1996. Ačkoli byla oceněna Washington Area Music Association, mimo oblast Washingtonu, D.C., zůstala během svého života prakticky neznámá. Zemřela na melanom ve věku 33 let 2. listopadu 1996.

Dva roky po její smrti byla hudba Eva Cassidy představena britskému publiku, když její verze písní Fields of Gold a Over the Rainbow byly přehrány na BBC Radio 2. Reakce posluchačů byla ohromující a videozáznam jejího vystoupení Over the Rainbow z Blues Alley byl promítán na BBC Two's Top of the Pops 2.
