Al Jolson

Al Jolson byl byl americký zpěvák, herec a komik židovského původu, který se narodil 26. května 1886 v Litvě. Když mu byly čtyři roky, emigroval se svými rodiči do USA. Od mládí projevoval vlohy pro zpěv a v divadle začal působit již v útlém věku.

Svou kariéru zahájil jako člen vodvilové skupiny a později se prosadil jako sólový zpěvák a herec na Broadwayi. Byl známý tím, že si často líčil tvář na černo pro kabaretní vystoupení a vystupoval v černošském prostředí, což bylo v té době neobvyklé a mnohdy považováno za kontroverzní. Nejznámějšími jeho písněmi jsou například "Swanee", "Mammy" a "Toot, Toot, Tootsie (Goo' Bye)".

J olson také hrál v mnoha filmech a v roce 1927 se stal prvním hercem, který promluvil ve filmu, a to ve snímku "The Jazz Singer." Tento film mu zajistil nejen velkou popularitu, ale také mu vynesl přezdívku "The World's Greatest Entertainer".
